What is Marie thinking about the Options paper meeting?

Greetings Colleagues:

This is a practice session to discuss offline our draft thoughts about what is going on with the Yakima Valley workgroup actions.
The meeting of the options paper workgroup is approaching fast. We don't have time to secure a facilitator. I can facilitate the meeting and I have offered to do so. I am trained; but rusty. Karma is also trained; but I don't know if she has time. I have started the process and you all are welcome to jump in and help.

What are you thinking?

  1. Marie, thanks for starting this blog. It will take initiative by individuals to check here, but will definately reduce the volume of emails. I am in training next week in Seattle and won't be at the check-in, but would like to know the latest on the options paper (date, location, and how to submit additional comments.)

  2. Hi Sandy, the meeting has been scheduled for May 13, 2009 at the WSDA office in Yakima.

If you have additional comments send them to me and Karma. If they are editorial, just redline the doc. I would like to see comments at this point focus on the recommendations, i.e., what's missing and any key items people want added to the doc.

I met with Eric Anderson yesterday and got some of his comments and Eric Winiecki and I plan to be in Yakima on Thursday 4/30/09. Will have more details later.

  3. I thought the options paper would be used to help the impacted community understand what options are available for moving forward on the GW issues. I hope we as a group can come to an understanding of collaboration (see Harrison's nitrate paper, page 19 for a nice chart of community decision-making continuum).
The proposed agenda does not ask the 'community', (county and enviro groups involved in the adhoc workgroup) how they plan to use the document but is more agency focused. I believe they should be included in the first section of the agenda as to how they may use this document.
Sorry for my expressed verbal frustration on Tuesday. This issue is very complicated - persoanlly, politically, culturally, geographically, and hydrologically.
